CarlaJonathan Valley Elementary School
Carla is currently a 5th grade teacher at Jonathan Valley Elementary School where she will be teaching science and technology this coming school year. Along with being a national trainer for the AIMS Education Foundation, she is currently writing inquiry based activities for the North Carolina Department of Instruction that will be available online this year. She is a regional trainer for the North Carolina Math and Science Education Network through Western Carolina University. In 2004 she was a Toyota Tapestry Grant winner in Science Literacy. She also has her National Board Certification, has been Haywood County Math Teacher of the Year as well as Haywood Soil and Conservation District's Conservation Teacher of the Year. She recently was selected to participate in the North Carolina Natural Science Museum's Educator of Excellence Alumni program that traveled to Ecuador with Heifer International.

Shelby is a native resident of San Antonio, Texas. Shelby began teaching in Texas in 1985. Her experiences in education include teaching mathematics at grades 4-8, teaching mathematics at grades 9-12 in an alternative program for drop-out retrieval and prevention, working with teachers as an instructional specialist for the improvement of K-10 mathematics instruction, and working as an educational consultant for Math Solutions Professional Development. She is currently a mathematics instructional specialist with North East ISD in San Antonio, Texas.

Sharon is an Educator-in-Residence working for the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) and Virginia Beach City Public Schools. She has taught science for more than 25 years and her work with children earned her recognition as a Secondary Science Presidential Award Winner for Virginia. Sharon also writes activities and trains teachers for the AIMS Education Foundation and has been a writer and reviewer for Harcourt Science.

Rusty has been an educator for 26 years and is currently a lecturer and supervisor of Education Studies at the University of California at San Diego. He also provides professional development for district-level administrators and teachers across the country, conducting math in-service sessions. Crystal is currently an instructional resource teacher/math coach in a 6-8 middle school. She provides staff development and support in the implementation of district-wide mathematics programs at school, district, and administrative levels. For the past 15 years she has worked in St. Mary's County, MD, as an elementary school teacher, math coach, and district math coordinator.   She has worked at the state level on Maryland’s Voluntary State Curriculum and setting the standards for the Maryland State Assessment. Crystal is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescence Mathematics.

Previously, he taught fifth grade for ten years at Deer Park Environmental Science Magnet School where he was a science lead teacher. He has served on the NSTA Committee on PreSchool/Elementary Science Teaching and led teacher workshops on force and motion, earth science, and marine science on the Chesapeake Bay.

Carolyn, an educator for 36 years, is currently the Associate Director of Professional Development for Marilyn Burns Education Associates. Carolyn designs and provides K–8 professional development for district-level administrators, school-based math leadership teams, coaches, and teachers across the country. She is the co-editor of The Math Coach Field Guide—Charting Your Course (Math Solutions Publications, 2006) and ongoing contributor to Math Solutions Online Newsletter. Marji, an educator for 33 years, is currently the Director of Professional Development for Marilyn Burns Education Associates. She was a middle school mathematics teacher for 15 years in Texas and continues to work with teachers and students in kindergarten through grade 8. Marji is a 1986 recipient of the Texas Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Marji is also the author of Creative Graphing (ETA/Cuisenaire, 1986) and coauthor of Number Power: A Cooperative Approach to Mathematics and Social Development (Addison-Wesley, 1992).

Rich recently retired after 32 years of teaching. He now does educational consulting and is a supervisor with the NAEP Testing. He earned his National Board Certification (Middle Childhood Generalist) and was the National Science Teachers Association Division Director for Preschool/Elementary Science. Rich is a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, CESI/CIBA National Exemplary Elementary Science Teacher, and was the Arizona Elementary Science Teacher of the Year. He was a finalist for Arizona Teacher of the Year and is a member of the Arizona State University College of Education Hall of Fame.
